Center for Research on Microgrids

CROM is a European leading research center, affiliated to the AAU Energy department at Aalborg University. It is dedicated to the sustainable development on multi-disciplinary electrification frameworks and optimal cutting-edge energy AC & DC Microgrid solutions in applications such as Marine (shipboard power systems and seaports), Space (closed ecological systems and manned lunar bases), AI-enabled energy systems, and system integration. With more than 15 years of experience, CROM currently comprises world-class laboratories, having so far more than 50 members, including Researchers, PhD/MSC students, and visiting scholars. As a major research center, CROM has established a close international cooperation with industry firms, universities, and research institutions worldwide.

CROM’s research and innovation agenda is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

By developing intelligent microgrid technologies that enable efficient, decentralized, and low-carbon energy systems, CROM actively contributes to expanding access to clean energy, promoting resource-efficient energy planning, and reducing the environmental impact of energy generation and consumption.
