- Basic fluid dynamics
- Basic understanding of programming (C++, Bash and Python)
- Basic understanding of Linux systems
Prior to course commencement, material will be sent out to participants to ensure all are on the same level with regards to the above three prerequisites.

By the end of the course the participant will know how to setup and simulate various fluid flow problems using the open-source software OpenFOAM. Theywill know how to navigate the code and adapt it for various purposes and develop their own solvers for specific type of problems they may encounter duringtheir PhD studies.

The course counts for 5 ECTS credit. All students will receive a diploma stating participation in the course.

40 hours teaching in class lectures
20 hours preparation
80 hours project work

Evaluation form: Mini project

Criteria for assessment: Independently set up and simulate a given fluid flow problem using OpenFOAM

Selected articles, book chapters, presentations and software will be announced to the participants at the course site in PhD moodle.

Outside of AAU
If you are from outside Aalborg University and you wish to enroll in one of our PhD courses, you must create a profile. This is done by clicking on “create new account” and filling out the form in PhD Moodle.

Cancellation
Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before the start of the course. The Doctoral School has a no-show fee of DKK 3.000 for each course where the student does not show up.

Registered illness sent to the course organizer and the aauphd@aau.dk is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days.

Diploma
All passed participants will receive a diploma as a PDF file.
The Doctoral School kindly ask for your patience, as it might take a while before you receive the final course diploma. This is due to the process of gathering evaluations.
