Title: Status of fusion research and Consorzio RFX contribution

Abstract: After short preliminary remarks on electricity generation and future scenarios, the presentation introduces thermonuclear fusion as energy source, with particular reference to configurations based on magnetic confinement. The main international project: ITER, and the path toward fusion energy production, with particular reference to the European roadmap are described.

Finally the presentation covers the Italian contribution to fusion research and that of Consorzio RFX in particular. 

 

Short CV: Elena Gaio       Collaborator of Consorzio RFX, formerly Senior Researcher with National Research Council, seconded to Consorzio RFX, leading research in the field of electrical technologies, power circuits and systems for fusion experiments. Elena Gaio  was the Leader of the Power Systems Research Group at Consorzio RFX   from  Jan 2009  to June 2023,  Project Leader of the “EU DEMO Plant Electrical System” (EUROfusion) from  Jan 2021  to June 2023, she is the Vice-chair of the Technical Advisory Panel of Fusion for Energy, the European organisation managing Europe’s contribution to ITER, the largest scientific experiment on the path to fusion energy.
