Wind energy is becoming more pervasive as it is sustainable and without carbon dioxide emission. However, power electronics, which are being widely used in wind turbine, seem to have the highest failure rate and limit reliable operation of the wind farm. To determine the availability in such system is challenging and needs theoretical analysis.
This Ph.D. project focuses on achieving a highly reliable and efficient wind farm system. It aims to pursue novel approaches in reliability assessment from key components, turbines, to the whole farm. The general methodology and modeling of the reliability evaluation will be developed. Thereafter, optimized power control algorithm and systematical layout of the wind farm will be considered.
