Introduction

The power electronics system laboratory is used for testing prototypes from small power electronic converters up to large scale medium voltage complex systems.

Facilities


High voltage test cages

Four 2.5×3.5m test cages with protection circuits are available. Each cage has two 16A and one 32A three phase connection. Water cooling is accessible in all of the cages. 125A 400V connection and high capacity water cooling system is available in one of the cages.

Cages can be coupled together if a bigger work area is necessary.

Low voltage test benches

There are four low voltage test benches available. Each test bench is equipped with two low voltage, four channel DC power supplies. Access is provided to two three phase 16A power sockets and one three phase 32A socket. Small scale soldering jobs (rework) are allowed provided ESD rubber mat and suction points are used.

Equipment

Generic electrical test equipment is provided: low and high voltage power supplies, oscilloscopes, passive and differential voltage probes, current probes, power meters and multimeters.

More specialised high voltage test and measurement hardware is also available: fiber optically-isolated differential probes, 20kV passive probes, HV passive probe calibrator.

Safety information

A CO2 fire extinguisher is located in the middle of the room, close to the doors to P107 2.109. Another CO2 extinguisher is placed outside the lab, in the corridor, close to the doors to P107 2.118. Fire hoses are located near both of these extinguishers.

A defibrillator and first aid kit are placed outside the laboratory in the corridor.
