Offshore Renewable Energy Systems

There are limitless sources of renewable energy situated offshore. Wind energy, tidal and wave energy, ocean thermal energy, and solar energy are only few examples. Harvesting, storage and integration of these energies are far beyond simple due to challenging access and harsh environment.

The Offshore Renewable Energy Systems (ORES) research group

  • Aims to explore, research and develop innovative and breakthrough engineering methods, technologies and solutions for harnessing different types of renewable offshore energy in a reliable, sustainable, cost-effective and environmentally friendly manner.
  • Focuses on the modeling, design, optimization, control and fault diagnosis in offshore renewable energy generation, storage and integration.  Our interdisciplinary research covers a broad range of applications from wind turbines and wave energy converters and their components in the power generation side to energy islands and Power2X in the storage and distribution side and from mechanical and structural aspects to control and power electronic challenges.

How the research group - Offshore Renewable Energy Systems is linked to AAU Energy missions

The research in ORES is tightly connected to the value chain including the generation, storage and integration of the offshore renewable energy. Therefore, our research group contributes to the following research missions:

  • Renewable generation and energy islands
  • Electrification, storage and integrated energy systems
  • Digital transformation and AI for smart and resilient energy systems
This research group is aligned with the following UN Sustainable Development Goals.
